Forget Manchester City, PSG, and Newcastle United’s Abu Dhabi, Qatar, and Saudi Arabian ownership regimes – could it really be that Championship strugglers West Bromwich Albion are the richest club in world football?

Recent reports suggest that the largest individual shareholder at West Brom is the People’s Republic of China – the second largest economy on Earth – yet the Baggies are currently mired in debt and crisis, and have been on a downward spiral ever since their Chinese takeover in 2016.

So in this documentary, HITC Sevens takes a deep dive into West Brom’s complex ownership structure, the mysterious figure of Guochuan Lai, and why the club faces a serious fight for its future.

  1. Could it be symbolic? Britain used to be known as Albion, China now rules the world and is destroying Albion.
I’m a baggies fan and expect us to have points deduction’s and therefore relegations snd bankruptcy because of this ownernership.

  2. The meaning of the clip is that money has corrupted football. I think this is your point of view!!
Well, well, let me teach you a lesson in football economics. The club follows the FFB system, that is, according to the law, the club is entitled to a financial exchange value that matches the annual revenues. This means that the club cannot exceed the financial spending limit, otherwise it will be subject to penalties from the Football Association if Newcastle cannot buy a player for 200. One million dollars and a net return of $10 million. Secondly, the money and profits of investors in buying the club and its success revitalizes the city, its bars, restaurants and transportation. The indirect returns to the state may exceed billions every season, which are found in banks, such as returns that allow you to borrow to buy a house and for the investor to build a factory to find you work and pay your bills.
The problem of the lack of success of some clubs is the result of their poor management

My friend, stupidity is a disease that cannot be cured

  3. As an Aussie whom is 50yrs old now and became a WBA fan at 8yrs old. Because of an English kid that moved to Australia. We became best friends and because Paul was a Baggies fan I became one. It's so disappointing to see whats happening to our beloved club.

  4. Don't really know about finance law, especially in the UK, but those Loans mentioned don't even sound legal….
Didn't know about these issues with the Baggies being a fan in the US. I'll still root for them regardless.
    COYB! Boing Boing!

  5. The Midlands is a great football location, especially around Birmingham, it's no wonder we attracted so much Chinese investment. China pulling out was quite awful for all the clubs but West Brom got hit the worst. They have the most passionate fans and I hope they come back from this.

  6. The Newcastle owners are Royals and don't have to declare their wealth. They are said to own barrels of stored oil worth multi trillions of dollars and that's not even counting the trillions of dollers they still have in the ground plus the money the family all ready has. It's enough to hurt the brain just thinking about. So I would say Newcastle united defo have the wealthiest owners.
